Designed by Victor D. Brenner, the series runs from 1909 through present and in 2009 celebrated the centennial anniversary of its design as well as the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth in 1809. The 'wheat back' ran from 1909 through 1958 and was composed of 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc and tin. The memorial design is by Frank Gasparro and has been on the reverse of the coin since 1959. Since 1982 the Lincoln Cent has been made of a 97.5 percent zinc core with 2.5 percent copper plating.
